The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) convened a five-day workshop in Kigali to validate key air operations documents aimed at strengthening regional preparedness and coordination in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
The workshop, running from June 15 to 19, brought together technical experts from EASF member states, including Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
Participants will review and harmonise the Combined Air Operations Manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and a Memorandum of Understanding on Humanitarian Assistance and Natural Disaster Support, according to the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).
The meeting was officially opened by Brig Gen Louis Kanobayire, Commandant of the Rwanda Air Force School, who represented the RDF Chief of Defence Staff.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kanobayire said the workshop reflects the region's collective commitment to enhancing cooperation and improving preparedness to respond effectively to humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters.
