Kenya Lionesses denied first win despite commendable effort in HSBC challenger series

The Kenya Lionesses' quest for their first victory in the ongoing HSBC Challenger Series fell just short on Friday, narrowly succumbing 12-10 to Czech Republic in a gripping encounter at Dubai's Sevens Stadium. Although Mwanja's charges displayed undeniable grit, they struggled to find their usual spark, hampered by scrappy breakdowns and costly handling errors.

The intensity of the clash was evident as both teams found themselves down to twelve players at one point, with two players, one from each side, sent to the "naughty chair" for infringements. Kenya's points came courtesy of Stella Wafula and Christabel Lindo, the latter unfortunately seeing red later in the match. Adding to the Lionesses' woes, speedster Sharon Auma, already battling a pre-existing knee injury, was forced to spend a significant portion of the game on the sidelines.

Undeterred, the Lionesses remain focused on securing their first win and concluding their pool fixtures with a strong showing against Mexico on Saturday morning. Kick-off against the Latin Americans is scheduled for 10:59 am EAT.
