KRU announces dates and venues for 2025 National Sevens Circuit

The Kenya Rugby Union has unveiled the schedule for the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit, with six legs set to take place across four cities. While five venues are confirmed, the host of the fourth leg will be determined through a bidding process. Here’s a breakdown of the full schedule and what to expect from this year’s competition.

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has confirmed the schedule for the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit, with six legs set to take place across four cities.

The circuit will kick off in Mombasa before moving to Nakuru, Nairobi, and Kisumu. Nairobi will host two legs - Christie Sevens and Kabeberi Sevens - while Mombasa, Nakuru, and Kisumu will each host one. However, the host city for the fourth leg is yet to be determined, as KRU has opened a bidding process. In the last two seasons, Eldoret and Kakamega won the bids, hosting the Tisap Sevens (2023) and Ingo Sevens (2024), respectively.

The tournament will run on back-to-back weekends, with teams getting two-week breaks between the second and third legs, and the fourth and fifth legs.

2025 National Sevens Circuit Schedule

  • Driftwood Sevens (Mombasa) – 26-27 July
  • Prinsloo Sevens (Nakuru) – 2-3 August
  • Christie Sevens (Nairobi) – 16-17 August
  • TBA (Bidding Process Ongoing) – 23-24 August
  • Kabeberi Sevens (Nairobi) – 6-7 September
  • Dala Sevens (Kisumu – Grand Finale) – 13-14 September

Defending champions Kenya Harlequin will be looking to retain their title after finishing the 2024 season with 110 points. Quins made at least the semi-finals in five of the six legs, securing victories at the Driftwood Sevens and Ingo Sevens.

Their biggest challengers are expected to be Kabras Sugar, who finished second last season with 105 points after winning the Christie Sevens and Dala Sevens. KCB, winners of the Kabeberi Sevens in 2024, will also be eyeing a return to the top after finishing third with 94 points last season.

Other teams to watch include Strathmore Leos, who claimed the Prinsloo Sevens title and finished fifth overall with 78 points—five behind Menengai Oilers, who placed fourth with 83 points.

With the calendar set and the competition heating up, all eyes now turn to the teams as they prepare for another thrilling season of sevens rugby.
