The breakthrough came after players reportedly staged protests at the FKF headquarters on Wednesday, demanding payment of their outstanding allowances and threatening to boycott the trip to France.

Outstanding allowance issues that had prompted the Harambee Starlets to stage a protest have been resolved after the government released the players' dues and disbursed a Sh10 million presidential reward ahead of the team's training camp in France for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The breakthrough came after players reportedly staged protests at the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) headquarters, Kandanda House, on Wednesday, demanding payment of their outstanding allowances and threatening to boycott the trip to France.
Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, who met the players after the protest, dismissed reports of a crisis, saying the government had honoured its commitments to the national women's team.
"Just to assure our girls that there is no crisis. The government is committed to supporting all sports, all of them. The issues related to the allowances are being processed. Accordingly, the money goes to individual accounts, and they can confirm the money has been sent...to the Under-17 team (Junior Starlets) as well as to the Starlets," Mwangi said.
He also clarified that the Sh10 million presidential reward promised by President William Ruto had already been processed and was available, attributing the delay in its presentation to scheduling conflicts following a State House breakfast meeting with AFC Leopards.
According to Mwangi, the Ministry had planned to hand over the reward immediately after the State House engagement, shortly before the players staged their protest.
"President Ruto promised the girls that they would be given Sh10 million for their facilitation, which, as they can confirm, the money has already been given to them. Of course, he also promised that we would continue supporting them on the different stages as part of motivation. We are working on an agreeable figure for them, so that if they qualify for the finals, the way we treated our Harambee Stars during CHAN, they will also be treated, but on an agreeable formula,” Mwangi said.
Harambee Starlets captain Mwanahalima Adam confirmed that the payment issues had been resolved, saying the squad was now fully focused on preparations for the continental tournament.
"Our leaders have come through for us. At least they have resolved those issues, and everything is now okay. Now it's our turn to go and do our job. They have done their part, and now we will do ours. The government has fulfilled its promise, and the President has also delivered on what he promised," she said.
The Starlets will hold a high-performance training camp in Miramas, France, before travelling to Morocco for the 2026 WAFCON, where Kenya will face hosts Morocco, Senegal and Algeria in the group stage.
