The Kitui High Court has temporarily halted the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branch elections following a petition by the Kenya Football Association (KFA), which challenges FKF’s compliance with national sports laws.
The Kitui High Court has issued an order to halt the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branch elections, previously scheduled for this Saturday, in response to a petition filed by the Kenya Football Association (KFA).
The case, which raises significant questions about FKF’s compliance with Kenya's Sports Act, was brought before the court by the relatively unknown KFA.

The KFA petition, filed on 6 November 2024, seeks an urgent directive for the Sports Registrar to revoke FKF’s certificate of registration, alleging that the federation has failed to comply with legal requirements as stipulated in the Sports Act and has not met the terms of its registration as the national football governing body.
In response, FKF quickly filed a preliminary objection on 8 November, contesting the legitimacy of KFA’s claims. Both the application and the preliminary objection were heard the same day, with the case adjourned to 12 November for a full hearing.
The court’s decision has stirred responses from various quarters within Kenyan football, with FKF presidential front-runner Hussein Mohammed among those voicing disappointment. Mohammed, who has been leading the "A Fresh Start" campaign, expressed frustration over the delay in the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of football as the nation’s most popular sport and a unifying factor across Kenya.
“I am deeply disappointed by the decision to halt the FKF branch elections that were set for this Saturday,” Mohammed said in a statement. “Football is more than just a sport in Kenya - it’s our nation's most beloved game, cherished by millions, and it deserves respect and a fair, uninterrupted process to ensure its growth."
Mohammed stated that his team had been "fully prepared, ready, and confident for a win" in the branch elections, and he reassured supporters that this setback would not deter their commitment. "This is only a small setback, and we remain certain that, in the end, we will emerge victorious. We need to sort this issue quickly so we can refocus on our mission to grow the game and uplift our players from the grassroots level,” he added.
Mohammed urged delegates to remain vigilant and resilient during this uncertain period, encouraging them to hold firm to the shared vision of a fresh start for Kenyan football. "This challenge will soon be behind us, and A FRESH START for Kenyan football is within reach,” he said, ending on an optimistic note.
