WAFCON 2024: Hosts Morocco in the group of death

The stage is set for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024 following the group stage draw held in Rabat. Hosts Morocco face a stern test in Group A against Zambia, Senegal, and DR Congo, while defending champions South Africa and record winners Nigeria also brace for fierce competition in their respective groups.
The hosts of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024, Morocco, find themselves in what many are calling the competition's most challenging group. Drawn into Group A, they face stiff competition from Zambia, Africa’s fastest-rising women’s national team, alongside Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The group stage draw was held in Rabat, Morocco, marking a key moment as the tournament gears up for its 2024 edition. The event was graced by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, Moroccan football chief Fouzi Lekjaa, and prominent figures from the football community, including legends and officials.
Defending champions South Africa landed in Group C, where they will face Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania. Meanwhile, perennial powerhouse Nigeria, a dominant force in African women’s football for decades, was drawn into Group B with Botswana, Tunisia, and Algeria. Botswana will be making its second consecutive WAFCON appearance.
The TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024 will run from 5 to 26 July 2025, featuring 12 of Africa’s best teams vying for continental honours.
