Kenya’s Shujaa ready for Cape Town 7s challenge

Kenya’s Shujaa is set to battle Australia and Spain in Pool B at the Cape Town 7s this weekend. The tournament, part of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, features a new format with four pools of three teams each. Shujaa aims to improve on their 10th-place finish in Dubai as the series moves to South Africa.
Kenya’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, is set to play in Pool B of the Cape Town 7s, part of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. The tournament will take place on Saturday 7 December, and Sunday 8 December 8 in Cape Town, South Africa. Shujaa will face Australia and Spain in their group matches.
This year’s series introduces a new format with four pools of three teams, replacing the old three-pool system.

Dubai 7s champions Fiji lead Pool A alongside Great Britain and Uruguay. Pool B includes Kenya, Australia, and Spain, who impressed last weekend in Dubai. Argentina, the current series leaders, are in Pool C with hosts South Africa and Ireland. Pool D features strong competition from New Zealand, France, and the USA.
The World Rugby Sevens Series began with an exciting opening leg in Dubai. Fiji defeated Spain 19-5 in the final to take the top spot on the standings with 20 points. Spain earned 18 points for their second-place finish, while Argentina finished third with 16 points. New Zealand and France rounded off the top five with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Defending champions South Africa had a tough start, finishing seventh with 10 points. Australia and Great Britain came eighth and ninth, earning eight and six points. Uruguay beat Kenya 15-7 in the ninth-place playoff, leaving Shujaa in 10th place with three points after two wins and three losses.
Ireland earned two points, while the USA sits last with one point. Teams now head to Cape Town for the second leg of the series.
