Following the recent suspected terror attack in Mandera, on Wednesday, civilians injured in the incident were airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

The outcry stemmed from the airlifting of three injured police officers while leaving civilians at the Mandera hospital.

Among those overseeing the airlift was Mandera Deputy Governor Ali Maalim, who emphasised the importance of reuniting the casualties with their families to provide much-needed psychosocial support.

While acknowledging the medical care provided by dedicated professionals at Mandera Referral Hospital to the 10 casualties, Dr Ali emphasised the necessity of airlifting them to access additional support.

Tragically, the incident resulted in the loss of four lives, including two police constables. Dr Ali conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to all the injured.

"The leadership of the county government extends our deepest condolences to those who lost their loved ones, and we wish a quick recovery to all those injured," said the DG.

He commended the efforts of Mandera Referral Hospital staff, security personnel, and other responders who swiftly coordinated their response to the attack at Fish Point Hotel in Mandera town.

In light of the security situation, Dr Ali urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, including the police, local chiefs, and Nyumba Kumi elders.

Furthermore, he urged local traders to conduct thorough scans of their workplaces and promptly report any suspicious items found within their business premises.

Dr Ali called upon members of the public to collaborate with the police in providing information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the heinous attack.

Four people, including Police Constable Alex Mbuvi Munguti of the Mandera Police Station and Police Constable Cyprian Kuta of the Quick Response Unit based at Arabia in Mandera, lost their lives in the attack, according to a police report.
