Abdirahim was shot dead and his mobile phone stolen. Police recovered a spent cartridge at the scene of the shooting and the same has been kept as an exhibit in the case.
Officers from Shaurimoyo DCI had recorded witness statements and CCTV footage retrieved from the scene of the crime has been forwarded to the DCI headquarters for forensic analysis.
Investigations led to the arrest of the suspect on November 23, within Kiambiu slums.
Corporal Samson Cheruiyot of Shaurimoyo DCI offices obtained orders from Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi to detain Odhiambo for 14 days to conclude investigations.
"The applicant (DCI) is seeking custodial orders for the respondent (Odhiambo) to be remanded for 14 days at Shaurimoyo for 14 days," stated Cpl. Cheruiyot while listing the reasons for the detention.
The DCI intends to obtain the suspect's call data records from a telecom services provider, recover the murder weapon, and a pistol and conduct a mental assessment of the suspect.
Odhiambo has allegedly confessed to being a member of the gang that robbed and killed a DCI officer before robbing his wife in Ruai in August last year.
He told the DCI that killing police constable David Mayaka was not in their plans as they just wanted money from him and faulted his accomplices for fatally shooting the detective who was a scene of crimes officer at the Makadara DCI offices.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) is planning to charge Odhiambo with violently robbing PC Mayaka contrary to section 295 as read with section 296 (2) of the penal code and consolidate it with that of a suspect charged over the same robbery last year before he is charged with robbery and murder of Abdirahim.
Odhiambo will be back in court on December 16.
