FIFA slaps Bandari FC with transfer ban over Sh3.7 million debt to ex-coach Mohamed Borji

Bandari FC has been banned from registering new players in domestic and international competitions after failing to comply with a FIFA order to pay former head coach Mohamed Borji Sh3.7 million in outstanding remuneration and compensation for breach of contract.

Kenya Premier League side Bandari FC has been barred from registering new players after failing to comply with a FIFA Football Tribunal ruling ordering the club to compensate its former head coach, Mohamed Borji.
In May, FIFA ordered Bandari to pay Mohamed a total of $28,983.87 (approximately Sh3.7 million) after partially upholding his claim for breach of contract.
Mohamed and Bandari parted ways on December 11, 2025, in what the club described as a mutual separation following a technical review. Although both parties initially agreed on a structured payment plan to settle outstanding dues after his departure, the club reportedly failed to honour the arrangement. This prompted Mohamed to escalate the matter to FIFA in pursuit of payment.
In a decision issued on May 6, the FIFA Football Tribunal's Players' Status Chamber ruled that Bandari must pay $6,483.87 (Sh839,726) in outstanding remuneration and $22,500 (Sh2.9 million) as compensation for breach of contract. FIFA warned that failure to comply within 45 days of notification could result in sporting sanctions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, FIFA confirmed that Bandari had failed to meet its financial obligations to Mohamed despite the ruling, noting that the 45-day compliance period had elapsed.

“We refer to the above-mentioned matter, as well as the decision passed by FIFA in the matter ref. no. FPSD-23074 (the Decision). In this context, it appears that, despite the Decision, Bandari (the respondent) has not yet complied with its financial obligations towards Mohamed Borji," FIFA said.
The world football governing body subsequently imposed a registration ban on Bandari, preventing the club from registering new players in both domestic and international competitions. The ban will remain in force until the outstanding amount is paid in full or for a maximum of three consecutive transfer windows.
“A ban from registering new players internationally and nationally has been implemented by FIFA on the Respondent. The registration ban will remain active until the amount due is paid and for a maximum duration of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods,” said FIFA.
FIFA also directed the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to enforce the sanction at the national level, ensuring that Bandari is equally restricted from registering players in domestic competitions.
“FKF is requested to implement on the respondent a ban from registering new players at the national level, if not done yet,” FIFA said.
