Police have arrested a man suspected of involvement in a series of violent robberies in Mombasa and Malindi following an operation by detectives from Malindi Police Station.
The suspect, identified by police, was apprehended after investigators linked him to a robbery with violence incident reported in Mombasa on June 11, 2026.
According to detectives, the suspect had been under surveillance as investigations into the case progressed.
Police said investigations established that the suspect had hired a Toyota Fielder, registration number KDQ 085R, from Malindi before allegedly using it as a getaway vehicle during the robbery in Mombasa.
Investigators further alleged that he changed the vehicle's registration plates to KDS 223G in what they believe was an attempt to conceal its identity and evade detection.
The breakthrough came after detectives tracked the suspect to his hideout in the Kwachocha area of Malindi, where he was arrested.
During the operation, officers recovered a knife and a black handbag containing a quantity of cannabis sativa, which were seized as exhibits.
The arrest marks a significant development in investigations into violent robbery cases reported in the Coast region, with police indicating that further inquiries are ongoing to establish whether the suspect may have been involved in other related incidents.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody while undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment.
Authorities have not disclosed whether additional suspects are being pursued, but said investigations remain active.
