Police said Kombe’s hands had been tied, his mouth covered with tape, and he had sustained deep cuts on his stomach.

Police in Nyali, Mombasa, have launched investigations into a suspected murder after a robbery report by two mineral dealers led to the discovery of the body of a house caretaker inside an unoccupied compound.
The incident was reported at Nyali Police Station by Evans Mumbo Kalume, a resident of Bamburi, and Tanzanian national Philipo Vavae Mollel, who told police they had been attacked by armed men while going to meet a buyer in Nyali.
According to the police, the two businessmen, who deal in buying and selling minerals, said they had been directed to Nyali 2nd Avenue after being informed to meet a person identified as Abduba at Nyali City Mall.
Upon arrival at the location, they were allegedly ushered into a gated compound of an unoccupied house where four men confronted them.
The suspects reportedly used knives and pepper spray before demanding valuables from the two men.
The victims told police they lost 280 carats of tanzanite valued at about USD83,000 (Sh10,750,043), a Samsung Flip 3 mobile phone worth approximately Sh86,000, jewellery valued at USD150 (Sh19,427), 22 grams of emeralds worth about USD12,000 (Sh1,554,223) and Sh6,000 in cash.
After reporting the matter, officers from Nyali Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene.
During the inspection, police discovered blood stains on the floor of the servants’ quarters next to the main house.
Further searches led to the recovery of a blood-soaked carpet and the body of Hamisi Kombe, a 38-year-old man who worked as the caretaker of the property.
Police said Kombe’s hands had been tied, his mouth covered with tape, and he had sustained deep cuts on his stomach.
His body was moved to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have since detained the two mineral dealers as investigations continue, with preliminary findings pointing to possible links between the reported robbery and the death of the caretaker.
Police are also reviewing footage from nearby CCTV cameras to help establish what happened at the scene.
The case remains under investigation.
