AIDS-related deaths in Kenya have declined significantly over the past decade, falling from 58,446 in 2013 to 19,434 in 2026, according to data from the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council. The sharpest decline occurred between 2013 and 2020, reflecting sustained progress in HIV prevention, testing and treatment.
After reaching 19,486 deaths in 2020, the number rose to 22,373 in 2021 before declining again to 18,473 in 2022. The trend remained relatively stable in subsequent years, with 20,480 deaths in 2023, 21,097 in 2025, and 19,434 in 2026.
The data also shows that adults account for the majority of AIDS-related deaths throughout the period, while deaths among children remain considerably lower. Overall, the long-term trend points to a substantial reduction in AIDS-related mortality despite fluctuations in some years.
