Linda Mwananchi demands PS Raymond Omollo's arrest over rise in goon attacks

The faction, whose members flanked Osostsi as he recorded a statement at Parliament Police Station, threatened legal action should investigations stall or fail to produce results.

ODM's Linda Mwananchi faction has called for the arrest of Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo over the rise in alleged politically linked “goon” attacks, as tensions between opposition figures and the government escalate.

Speaking during a presser on Tuesday, Siaya Governor James Orengo accused the government of failing to act decisively on recent incidents of violence involving organised groups targeting political figures.

Orengo cited the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as part of - what he described as - a growing pattern of politically motivated intimidation.

He alleged that PS Omollo was the chief mobiliser of the violent groups and demanded his immediate arrest and prosecution.

The governor further expressed dissatisfaction with ongoing investigations, claiming that key individuals had not been summoned for questioning.

"We are extremely unsatisfied with how the investigations are going. We are seeing people who have not been summoned to record statements. The ring leader has not been summoned, and PS Omollo has not been summoned. If the police do not arrest and prosecute the mastermind, then we will institute private prosecution," he said.

Orengo warned that if police fail to arrest and prosecute those allegedly responsible, opposition leaders would consider instituting private prosecutions.
He also accused the government of tolerating or enabling what he termed “goonism”, questioning why President William Ruto had not publicly addressed the issue despite rising political tension in the country.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna claimed that the security sector is deploying goons. "We will come to Kisumu on the 26th of this month to thank the people of Kisumu for identifying these people," Sifuna said.

The faction, whose members flanked Osostsi as he recorded a statement at Parliament Police Station, threatened legal action should investigations stall or fail to produce results.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three suspects in connection with the attack on Senator Osotsi. The suspects are Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje (24) and Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga (27), both from Nyalenda, and Eric Otieno alias Dude (39) from Manyatta. They are currently awaiting arraignment.
