The corporation urges passengers to use only official booking channels, warning that fraudulent platforms could lead to financial losses and the compromise of personal information.

Kenya Railways has issued a public warning about fraudulent websites and online platforms posing as official ticketing channels for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service, cautioning that unsuspecting customers risk losing money by making payments through unauthorised platforms.
The corporation said the fake websites are designed to deceive members of the public seeking to book train tickets, exposing them to financial loss and the possible compromise of their personal information.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, Kenya Railways urged passengers to use only its official booking channels when purchasing Madaraka Express tickets to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
The corporation said bookings for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service should only be made through its official online booking platform, the designated USSD service, or by visiting any Madaraka Express Passenger Service station across the country.
“Kenya Railways wishes to alert members of the public to the fraudulent websites and online platforms purporting to sell tickets for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service,” the corporation said.
The railway operator added that the fraudulent platforms are intended to mislead customers into making payments through unauthorised channels, which could result in financial losses and the possible compromise of personal information.
Kenya Railways also clarified that all official communication from the corporation is made only through its designated telephone numbers and cautioned the public against responding to calls or messages from unverified sources.
“The Corporation will not be held liable for any issues arising from bookings or calls made outside the official channels listed above,” the notice stated.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over online fraud targeting customers who rely on digital platforms to access essential services. Kenya Railways urged passengers to remain vigilant and verify booking channels before making any payments.
Members of the public seeking Madaraka Express tickets have been advised to use the official online booking platform, dial the approved USSD code *639#, or visit authorised Madaraka Express Passenger Service stations across the country.
