Mogadishu is seeking answers after reports that senior Somali government officials were denied entry into Kenya, raising fresh concerns over diplomatic relations between the neighbouring countries.

Somalia has summoned Kenya's ambassador for consultations following reports that several Somali federal government officials were denied entry into Kenya after arriving in Nairobi, in a development that could place fresh strain on relations between the two neighbouring countries.
Government sources said the meeting, expected to take place on Monday, will seek an explanation from Kenyan authorities over the reported incidents involving Somali officials. However, neither the Somali nor Kenyan government had issued an official statement on the matter by the time of publication.
The diplomatic move follows reports that Somalia's State Minister at the Presidency, Abshir Bukhaari, was denied entry into Kenya after landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and was deported back to Mogadishu.

According to the reports, Kenyan immigration officials questioned the Kenyan passport Bukhaari was using before refusing him entry into the country. He was then reportedly placed on a return flight to Somalia after being stopped at the airport.
Bukhaari previously served as the First Deputy Speaker of Somalia's Senate before joining the presidency as a state minister. Although reports have linked his deportation to questions surrounding his travel documents, neither the Kenyan nor Somali authorities have publicly confirmed the circumstances of the incident, and no official explanation has been provided.
The reported deportation has attracted attention because it comes only weeks after another senior Somali official was said to have faced similar treatment while travelling to Kenya.

Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister, Jibril Abdirashid Haji, was also reportedly denied entry into Kenya over claims that he had improperly acquired a Kenyan passport. Those reports were not publicly addressed by either the Kenyan or Somali governments, leaving questions surrounding the incident unanswered.
The reported cases have raised concerns that the issue could affect diplomatic relations between the two countries if it is not resolved through official channels.
Government sources said Somalia's decision to summon Kenya's ambassador is intended to seek clarification from Nairobi over the reported treatment of Somali officials at Kenyan immigration points. The consultations are expected to establish the facts surrounding the incidents and determine the basis on which the officials were denied entry.
Kenya and Somalia maintain close ties in trade, security and regional cooperation. The two countries also work together on border security and efforts to combat armed groups operating in the region, while collaborating through regional organisations on matters affecting the Horn of Africa.
Despite the reports surrounding the latest incidents, officials from both governments have remained silent, with no formal statements issued to confirm or deny the claims.
