Teachers across the country have been called upon to apply for examiner training ahead of the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, as the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) moves to prepare marking teams early.
In a notice dated Tuesday, February 17, the Council announced that the training will be conducted between March and April 2026.
It stated that applicants who are shortlisted will proceed to the programme and will be required to pay a training fee of Sh10,500 upon receiving official notification.
“The training fee is Sh10,500.00 and will only be paid by the shortlisted applicants who will be notified on how to make payments through a text message (SMS) and via the application portal,” KNEC stated.
KNEC said the exercise will be delivered through a mix of virtual sessions and physical training. Successful candidates will be guided on how to access online learning resources, while information on the location of the residential sessions will be shared later.
The Council clarified that attendance during the residential phase will be compulsory and conducted strictly on a residential basis.
For KJSEA, the subjects open for training include English Composition and Literary Analysis, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Kenya Sign Language, Integrated Science, Agriculture, Social Studies, Christian Religious Education, Islamic Religious Education, Creative Arts and Sports, and Pre-Technical Studies.
For KCSE, vacancies are available in Kiswahili Insha, Kiswahili Lugha, Kiswahili Fasihi, Mathematics, Islamic Religious Education, Home Science, Computer Studies Practical, French, German, Arabic listening comprehension and dictation, as well as Arabic grammar, reading comprehension, and composition.
The Council outlined the minimum qualifications required.
Applicants must be active teachers or tutors handling the relevant subject and must be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or the Public Service Commission (PSC).
They are required to possess at least a diploma in education and have taught for not less than three years.
Candidates must also have a clean disciplinary record, meaning they should not have faced interdiction or any other disciplinary action by TSC.
A recommendation from the head of the institution is mandatory, and applicants must be aged 50 years or below.
How to Apply
Interested teachers are required to access the examiners’ portal using the link https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke.
Applicants with CP2 accounts should log in to the portal using their usernames and passwords.
Those who have forgotten their CP2 passwords should click the reset password button, enter their mobile number starting with 254, and submit to get new passwords for logging into the system.
Teachers without CP2 accounts should click on create account and follow the prompts to obtain login credentials.
After logging in to the system, applicants are required to click apply for training and all the declared vacancies will be available for the applicants to choose.
“The training slots are limited and only qualified teachers/tutors who have presented all the required documents will be shortlisted on a first-come-first-served basis,” KNEC added.
The development follows an earlier move by the Council to roll out a free online course targeting senior school teachers to strengthen the delivery of Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) under the new curriculum structure.
In a notice dated Tuesday, January 20, KNEC announced that the dedicated training portal had been set up to equip senior school teachers with the skills needed to handle Competency-Based Assessment effectively.
“Are you a senior school teacher? Here’s your chance to improve your knowledge on Competency-Based Assessment. KNEC, through the Educational Assessment Resource Centre, offers free, self-paced online training at your convenience,” the examination body stated in its announcement.
The portal, available at cbalms.knec.ac.ke, enables teachers to undertake the course at their preferred time without deadlines. Access remains free for all senior school teachers nationwide.
To register, teachers are required to visit the platform and click on the “Sign Up” option.
