The National Police Service (NPS) said the all-male suspects remain in custody as investigations into the chaos that claimed two lives continue.

Police have arrested 56 suspects linked to Friday’s chaos that erupted in Sirikwa Umoja grounds in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, during a youth empowerment meeting attended by regional leaders.
In a post on X, the National Police Service (NPS) said the all-male suspects remain in custody as investigations into the chaos that claimed two lives continue.
“Officers recovered several exhibits from the suspects believed to have been used in the disturbance,” the NPS added.

According to preliminary reports, a confrontation erupted between groups of suspected goons allied to Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai and supporters of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, during which several individuals sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A bus that had ferried tents and chairs to the venue was set ablaze by unknown persons during the chaos.

The NPS said on Friday that it is pursuing the main suspect in the incident, MP Mutai, who is reportedly on the run. They urged him to surrender alongside other persons connected to the incident.

“Police officers launched a manhunt to apprehend him and other persons connected to the incident. We urge him, Mutai, to present himself at the nearest police station to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” the NPS directed.
