At least 11 people were killed in Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday, Lebanese state media reported, less than 24 hours after a ceasefire aimed at halting hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect.
According to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA), Israeli warplanes, drones and artillery struck multiple locations across the country, including areas around the southern city of Nabatieh.
The agency reported widespread damage across multiple regions, while footage circulating on social media showed large plumes of smoke rising above residential and rural areas in the aftermath of the strikes.
In a statement on X, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks, stating that it struck “Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure” after the group allegedly launched over 50 projectiles at Israeli forces operating in the country.
“Hezbollah launched 50+ projectiles toward IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon. To remove threats and in response to Hezbollah’s blatant violations, the IDF struck dozens of Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure sites and terrorists in southern Lebanon throughout the night,” the IDF said on X.

The latest exchange marked an early and serious test for the newly announced ceasefire, which international mediators had hoped would stabilise a border region that has seen months of sustained cross-border fighting.
Hezbollah has signalled that it is prepared to respond to further Israeli operations while accusing Israel of failing to respect the terms of the agreement fully.
"What concerns us is that the enemy fully and comprehensively respects the ceasefire, and doesn't attempt to attack our country and villages or seek to occupy any new position," senior Hezbollah official Hassan Fadlallah said, according to the Lebanon News Agency.
The renewed violence comes as diplomatic efforts continue around a wider US–Iran agreement aimed at reducing fighting across the region, including in Lebanon, where clashes between Israel and Hezbollah remain a key area of fighting in the wider conflict.
Washington has been trying to hold together the deal, with US officials warning that continued Israeli military action in Lebanon could jeopardise those efforts.
According to media reports, Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's envoy, is expected to travel to Switzerland for talks with Iranian officials linked to implementing the agreement.
