Healthcare staff in Taita Taveta County will be included in the 2026 Best Practices Health Awards after the Department of Health announced changes to the programme as part of efforts to encourage better performance in public health facilities.

The decision was announced during a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) stakeholders’ meeting held to review the progress of the county’s quality improvement programme.

The meeting brought together CQI stakeholders who assessed the implementation of quality improvement activities and reviewed challenges and progress made within the county’s health sector.

The stakeholders also discussed the progress of the county’s CQI programme and plans for the second Taita Taveta Best Practices Health Awards and Recognition scheduled for 2026.

The programme is supported by the United States Department of State through the Stawisha Pwani Project.

The county has been implementing CQI approaches aimed at identifying gaps in healthcare delivery and developing solutions within health facilities.

The meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to review how the initiatives have been applied and areas requiring improvement.

The expansion of the awards programme comes as health departments across counties continue to focus on improving efficiency, accountability and service delivery within public hospitals and health centres.

Mkamburi said involving all health workers in the recognition programme would help highlight the contribution of different teams involved in providing healthcare services.

The county did not provide details on the specific categories or criteria that will be used for the 2026 awards, but stakeholders agreed that quality improvement efforts would remain a key focus in assessing performance within the health sector.
