Eight suspects will be charged as Kisumu County intensifies its crackdown on organised criminal gangs, warning that those behind the deadly Milimani violence will be tracked down and prosecuted.

The Kisumu County Security Committee has launched an intensified crackdown on organised criminal gangs following Sunday's deadly violence in the Milimani area that left two young men dead.
In a joint statement, Governor Anyang' Nyong'o and County Commissioner Ramadhan Mwabudzo said eight suspects arrested in connection with the incident would be arraigned in court as investigations continue. They added that detectives are also collecting digital evidence, including content circulating on social media, to support further prosecutions.
The committee said the violence was not an isolated incident but part of organised criminal activity that would be met with firm action.
"What occurred in Milimani was organised criminal conduct, and it will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly," the statement said.
The county leadership warned that anyone involved in gang violence, including those acting on behalf of political or commercial interests, would face the full force of the law.
"To those who engage in violence, whether as members of criminal gangs or as individuals acting on behalf of political or commercial interests, this message is unambiguous: there will be no sanctuary in Kisumu County. Those responsible will be identified, arrested, prosecuted, and held fully accountable under the law," the statement added.
The authorities also revealed that ongoing countywide security operations have led to the arrest of more than 200 suspects as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore public confidence.
The committee warned that insecurity undermines economic growth by discouraging investment, disrupting business activities and eroding employment opportunities for young people.
It also cautioned politicians against sponsoring criminal activities, saying:
"Political competition must never become a licence to sponsor violence or recruit young people into criminal networks."
The leaders commended the National Police Service for its swift response during the violence, particularly around St. Stephen's ACK Cathedral and St. Joseph Catholic Church, saying the intervention helped prevent further loss of life.
The committee also conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families and urged young people to reject violence, stressing that Kisumu's future depends on peace, unity and respect for the rule of law.
