The officers will be responsible for examining and identifying suspected narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, preparing analytical reports, and providing expert scientific evidence to support investigations and court proceedings involving drug-related offences.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has officially designated six forensic chemistry officers as analysts in accordance with section 67(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act (Cap. 245), strengthening the country's capacity to investigate and prosecute drug-related offences.
The officers will be responsible for examining and identifying suspected narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, preparing analytical reports, and providing expert scientific evidence to support investigations and court proceedings involving drug-related offences.
They are Assistant Superintendent of Police Dr David Kipkemboi Sang, Chief Inspector Fredrick Nyagudi Opundo, Corporal Silas Chama Mosong, Police Constables Emmanuel Paul Khamisi, Benjamin Kemboi, and Joseph Kamiti Makobu.
Each officer has been formally authorised to undertake duties prescribed under the Act.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 67(1) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration designates the following forensic chemistry officers to be analysts with effect from the 14th April, 202,” the gazette notice that published their names notes.
The designation enhances the Government's capacity to enforce the Act by ensuring that forensic examinations are carried out by duly authorised officers.
As designated analysts, these officers will be responsible for receiving, examining, testing, and identifying substances suspected to be narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances.
They are required to conduct scientific analyses using recognised forensic procedures and prepare analytical reports or certificates indicating the results of their examinations.
Their findings will provide scientific evidence that assists investigators, prosecutors, and courts in determining the nature of seized substances and whether they fall within the categories of controlled drugs under the Act.
As such, their reports will thus play a significant role in criminal investigations and prosecutions involving drug-related offences.
The reports will also strengthen the integrity of investigations and support the fair administration of justice in cases involving narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
