Kenyans express concern as confidence in country’s direction declines

Only 14 per cent of those surveyed believe the country is moving in the right direction, a figure that has remained largely unchanged over the past year.

A new TIFA poll shows growing public concern about the country’s direction, with 74 per cent of respondents in May 2026 saying Kenya is headed in the wrong direction. This marks an increase from 68 per cent in November 2025 and 62 per cent in August/September 2025.
Only 14 per cent of those surveyed believe the country is moving in the right direction, a figure that has remained largely unchanged over the past year. The highest confidence level recorded in the survey period was 49 per cent in September 2023.
Meanwhile, 11 per cent of respondents in May 2026 said the country is moving in neither the right nor the wrong direction. The findings point to a continued decline in public confidence and a deepening negative national mood.
