DCI appeals for public help as probe into Reverend Julius Ndumia's murder deepens

The DCI noted that detectives are now focusing on a person of interest captured in images obtained during investigations, who is believed to have critical information that could advance the case.

Detectives probing the murder of Nakuru-based Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari have appealed for public assistance in identifying a key person of interest, even as two suspects charged in connection with the killing await a pre-trial hearing later this month.
In an update, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said “significant progress” had been made in the probe into the killing of the PCEA Tabuga Church cleric, who was murdered on the night of May 3, 2026.
The DCI said coordinated investigations involving the Homicide Directorate, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Operations Support Unit (OSU), and county-based detectives led to the arrest of two suspects, Felix Odinga Okumu and Berryly Nafua Atenyo.
“Following the conclusion of investigations surrounding these suspects, the case file was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for perusal and advice,” the DCI said, adding that the two suspects were subsequently arraigned before the Nakuru Law Courts, where they denied the charges.
The matter is now scheduled for a pre-trial conference on June 17, ahead of the commencement of full hearing proceedings.

Despite the arrests, investigators say the probe is still active and widening. The DCI noted that detectives are now focusing on a person of interest captured in images obtained during investigations, who is believed to have critical information that could advance the case.
“Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying this individual,” the agency said, adding that both an original and enhanced image have been released to improve chances of recognition.
According to detectives, the individual may help establish key links in the case and possibly point to other accomplices involved in the killing.
The DCI further said investigators are pursuing additional leads and continuing to profile other persons of interest connected to the incident.
Authorities have urged members of the public with any relevant information to report to the nearest police station or use anonymous reporting channels, including the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline, toll-free number 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp line 0709 570 000.
The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring all individuals involved in the murder are identified and brought to justice.
