Justice Gatembu garnered 26 votes out of the 41 ballots cast, defeating fellow candidates Lady Justice Lydia Achode, Justice Patrick Kiage, and Lady Justice Agnes Murgor.

Justice Gatembu Kairu has been elected as president-elect of the Court of Appeal after winning a vote conducted among judges of the appellate court.
Justice Gatembu garnered 26 votes out of the 41 ballots cast, defeating fellow candidates Lady Justice Lydia Achode, Justice Patrick Kiage, and Lady Justice Agnes Murgor.
His election ushers in a new chapter in the leadership of Kenya's second-highest court, which is responsible for hearing appeals from the High Court and other superior courts.

As President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Gatembu will be tasked with steering the court's administrative affairs, coordinating its operations, and providing leadership to judges serving across the appellate benches.
The position fell vacant following the completion of the tenure of the immediate former President Justice Daniel Musinga, prompting the election to choose his successor.
