President William Ruto says every region will receive its fair share of development as the government resumes work on Thwake Dam and rolls out billions of shillings in infrastructure, housing and education projects in Kitui County.

President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to equitable development across the country, saying every region will benefit from government projects regardless of political affiliation.
Speaking during a Sunday service and fundraiser at ACK St Martin's Cathedral in Kitui Town, the President said no part of the country would be marginalised, stressing that all Kenyans pay taxes and therefore deserve development irrespective of how they voted.
"The politics of exclusion, division and ethnicity is a stumbling block to our national development aspirations," President Ruto said, urging leaders and citizens to unite behind a common vision to accelerate the country's transformation.
The President announced that construction of the stalled Thwake Dam has resumed after the government allocated Sh10.6 billion to the project. He said the dam is expected to be completed by April 2027 and will provide water for irrigation, livestock and domestic use. He also said the long-delayed Umaa Dam in Kitui County will be revived.
President Ruto further said the government has invested Sh15 billion in affordable housing, modern markets and student hostels in Kitui County. Construction is underway on 11 of the planned 20 modern markets, while procurement is ongoing for the remaining nine.
"We want to make sure that we provide Mama Mboga and other traders with a clean environment, and provide water, electricity and digital hubs," he said, adding that the markets will also have cold storage facilities.
The President also said the government is constructing 250 kilometres of roads in Kitui County at a cost of Sh5.5 billion, including the Chuluni–Zombe Road, which is expected to be completed in June 2027.
On education, President Ruto said the government has increased funding for the sector by Sh80 billion in the current financial year and plans to recruit an additional 24,000 teachers after employing 100,000 over the past three years.
He also urged more Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access government-funded healthcare services.
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive development, the President assured residents that every region would receive its fair share of national resources.
"As the people of Kitui and Ukambani, this Government belongs to you, as it does to all other Kenyans, and you will get your fair share of development," he said.
