The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) will on Saturday officially flag off four national teams ahead of the 2026 World Masters Hockey (WMH) World Cup, marking the final step in the country's preparations for the global tournament.
The ceremony, set to be held at the City Park Hockey Stadium in Nairobi, will see the teams depart for Europe ahead of the championship, which runs from July 22 to August 1 across venues in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Kenya will field teams in the Men's Over-40, Over-45, Over-50, and Women's Over-35 categories, joining hundreds of teams from around the world in a competition that celebrates excellence and longevity in the sport.
The Men's Over-45 and Over-50 sides will play their matches at HC Rotterdam, while the Women's Over-35 team will compete at HC Schiedam. The tournament will also be staged in Breda in the Netherlands and Brasschaat in Belgium.
The World Cup is expected to attract close to 400 teams under the theme "Generation of Greatness - We Don't Stop Playing". The event brings together former international players, accomplished club athletes and hockey veterans who continue to compete at an elite level across age categories ranging from Over-35 to Over-80.
Kenya will be among five African nations at the championship, alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Egypt, as the continent continues to strengthen its presence in masters hockey.
The Kenyan teams will test themselves against some of the world's strongest hockey nations, including hosts the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, England, Argentina, New Zealand, Malaysia, Ireland, Japan and France.
Recognised as the pinnacle of international masters hockey, the World Cup provides veteran players with an opportunity to continue competing on the global stage while promoting friendship, healthy living and the lifelong spirit of the game.
Saturday's ceremony will officially launch Kenya's World Cup campaign before the teams leave for Europe in readiness for the opening matches on July 22.
