The Mombasa-bound section between GTC and Kempinski will remain partially closed from July 31 to August 31 as KeNHA undertakes highway maintenance and advises motorists to use alternative routes.

Motorists using Waiyaki Way should expect traffic disruptions from Friday, July 31, 2026, following the temporary closure of a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway between GTC and Kempinski to facilitate maintenance works.
In a notice, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the partial closure will remain in effect until Monday, August 31, 2026, to allow for highway maintenance along the affected stretch.
The authority said the closure will affect part of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) and advised motorists travelling along the route during the period to use the sections that remain open and consider alternative routes to minimise traffic disruption.

“All Motorists intending to use Waiyaki Way during this period will utilize the unclosed sections of this road as well as consider using alternative routes to ensure minimal traffic disruption,” KeNHA said.
KeNHA also urged motorists to adhere to the traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed at the site to direct traffic throughout the maintenance period.
“Motorists are further advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the Authority said.

The roads agency added that normal traffic flow along the affected section will resume once the maintenance works are completed.
“Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works,” KeNHA said.
