KeNHA to close Mombasa Road Eastern Bypass ramp from June 30 to July 7 for culvert works

Motorists using Mombasa Road will face a week-long partial closure at the Eastern Bypass junction ramp from June 30 to July 7, 2026, as KeNHA undertakes box culvert construction works.

Motorists using Mombasa Road should prepare for traffic disruptions next week after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a temporary partial closure of the Eastern Bypass junction ramp to facilitate ongoing construction works.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, KeNHA said the affected section will be partially closed from June 30 to July 7, 2026, to allow for the construction of a box culvert along the busy route. A box culvert is a reinforced concrete structure built beneath a road to channel water, helping to prevent flooding and protect road infrastructure from damage.
“KeNHA notifies the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) / Eastern Bypass Junction Ramp (Mombasa Bound Lanes) will be temporarily closed partially from Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to Tuesday, July 7, 2026,” the notice said.
Motorists heading towards the Eastern Bypass via the overpass ramp have been advised to proceed beyond the closed section, use a designated diversion, and reconnect with the ramp further ahead to access the bypass.
KeNHA further urged road users to exercise caution when approaching the area, adhere to the traffic management plan in place, and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed to guide motorists throughout the construction period.

The authority has recently intensified infrastructure upgrade works aimed at improving road safety, reducing congestion, and enhancing pedestrian mobility.
Last week, KeNHA announced a three-month partial closure of the Nakuru-bound carriageway to facilitate footbridge construction works. The affected stretch runs from Karuna Close to Westlands Roundabout, with the closure taking effect on June 25 and expected to last until September 25, 2026.
“This closure is to allow for extension works on the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers and the construction of the proposed Fogo-Gaucho-Quickmart Westlands footbridge,” KeNHA said in a notice.
The works are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions due to lane restrictions along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors, with motorists advised to anticipate delays, especially during peak hours.
