Ruto leaves for Ghana to attend Mahama's inauguration, to lobby for Raila
During his visit, Ruto is also expected to lobby for Raila Odinga's candidacy to succeed Chad's Moussa Faki as the next African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.
President William Ruto departed for Accra, Ghana, on Monday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for Tuesday.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed confirmed in a statement that Mahama had personally invited Ruto to the ceremony during his visit to Kenya on December 29.

"While in Accra, President Ruto will hold talks with heads of state and government, including President-elect Mahama, focusing on key areas of mutual interest and cooperation, including trade, energy, oil, textiles, agriculture, and diplomatic relations," Mohamed stated.
During his visit, Ruto is also expected to lobby for Raila Odinga's candidacy to succeed Chad's Moussa Faki as the next African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.
Mohamed noted that President Ruto will take the opportunity to express gratitude to Ghana for backing Kenya's candidate.
Mahama, the opposition leader in Ghana, recently won the presidential election with 56 per cent of the vote, defeating ruling party candidate and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 41 per cent.
This victory marks a political comeback for Mahama, who previously served as Ghana's president from 2012 to 2017.
He will be succeeding President Nana Akufo-Addo, whose final term was marked by economic challenges, including Ghana's worst financial turmoil in years, a debt default, and an IMF bailout.
Mahama's inauguration will be held at the historic Black Star Square in Accra.
