Kwale County begins construction of the Sh14 million Mwena Dam
The project aims to provide sustainable water solutions to the region, boasting a capacity of 40,000 cubic metres (40 million litres).
The residents of Mwena Village in Mwereni ward, in Lunga Lunga sub-county, are set to benefit from a Sh14 million transformative project aimed at tackling the perennial water shortage.
On Monday, Kwale deputy governor Chirema Kombo presided over a groundbreaking ceremony for the Mwena Dam in the county.

The project, which is funded by the National Government through the National Irrigation Authority (NIA), aims to provide sustainable water solutions to the region, boasting a capacity of 40,000 cubic metres (40 million litres).
The deputy governor highlighted the collaborative effort between the County Government of Kwale and the National Government in implementing crucial development projects.
"Our objective is to uplift the living standards of Kwale residents by initiating essential development projects at the grassroots level," Deputy Governor Kombo affirmed.
Once completed, the project will ensure residents have access to clean, treated water for both domestic and human consumption.

In support of the initiative, Lunga Lunga Member of Parliament Mangale Chiphoromodo commended the county government's commitment to alleviating water challenges through infrastructure development.
"I am pleased to work closely with both the county and national governments to ensure our constituents benefit from such impactful projects," MP Chiphoromodo stated.
Residents also expressed gratitude for the impending change the Mwena Dam will bring.
Mzee Kea Juma, a resident of Mwereni village, expressed relief, stating that the dam will be a game changer for the residents of Mwereni.
"We have endured long walks in search of water for years, but now, with water available nearby, it's a great relief," he said.
The Kwale government has embarked on a robust effort to end water shortages across Kwale County, having already completed over 20 dams and drilled 40 boreholes in just two years.
These efforts highlight the administration's commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life for all residents.
