DRC Ebola cases climb to 515 after 27 new infections reported

Kenyan health authorities have reassured the public that no Ebola case has been reported in the country despite the ongoing outbreaks in neighbouring DRC and Uganda.

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has risen to 515 after 27 newly tested samples returned positive results, underscoring the challenges health authorities face in bringing the outbreak under control.
Health officials say response efforts are being complicated by difficulties in tracing contacts linked to patients who escaped treatment facilities before completing isolation and care. The movement of infected individuals within communities increases the risk of further transmission and makes it harder for surveillance teams to identify and monitor people who may have been exposed to the virus.
Contact tracing remains one of the most important tools in controlling Ebola outbreaks. However, insecurity, population movement, and community mistrust in some affected areas have hampered efforts to track all potential contacts. Authorities are intensifying active case finding, testing, community engagement, and infection prevention measures in health facilities to break chains of transmission.
The outbreak is concentrated in eastern DRC, where health workers continue to battle logistical challenges and limited healthcare resources. Public health experts warn that delayed detection of cases and incomplete contact tracing could allow the virus to spread further if response efforts are not strengthened.
Meanwhile, Kenyan health authorities have reassured the public that no Ebola case has been reported in the country despite the ongoing outbreaks in neighbouring DRC and Uganda. The Ministry of Health says enhanced surveillance and screening measures remain in place at airports, land border crossings, and other points of entry.

As of June 5, more than 80,000 travellers had been screened for Ebola at Kenya's points of entry, while 56 samples collected from suspected alerts involving travellers from DRC and Uganda all tested negative. Health officials have also maintained that all Ebola alerts investigated so far have returned negative results, with the country remaining on high alert for any potential importation of the disease.
The Ministry of Health continues to urge the public to remain vigilant while emphasising that there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Kenya.
