Nairobi residents warned of cold weather as heavy rains expected across Kenya

At least 21 counties in Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to receive heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms.

Nairobi County is among the areas expected to experience cold weather and occasional rainfall this weekend, according to the Kenya Meteorological Services Authority (KMSA).
KMSA has urged Kenyans across the country to brace for cold and rainy conditions expected between Friday, June 5, and Monday, June 8.
At least 21 counties in Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to receive heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms.
These include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
Rainfall in these regions is expected mainly in the afternoon, often following morning showers, and may continue into the night.

In Central Kenya, light rains are forecast in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
A similar pattern is expected along the Coast in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as in parts of North Eastern Kenya, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo.
However, the South Eastern Lowlands Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, and Kajiado are expected to remain generally dry and sunny.
KMSA also warned of very cold nights in Central Kenya, where temperatures could drop to around 6°C. The affected counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
During the day, temperatures are expected to rise to about 37°C in parts of northwestern Kenya and along the Coast, while western Kenya, the Lake Victoria basin, and the Rift Valley will experience cooler daytime conditions ranging between 11°C and 12°C over the next five days.
