The evacuation exercise is part of the government's efforts to facilitate the safe return of Kenyans wishing to leave South Africa, while ensuring the process is conducted in an orderly manner.

Kenyans seeking evacuation from South Africa have until July 7 to register with the country's High Commission in Pretoria ahead of the final government-sponsored repatriation flight scheduled to depart from Johannesburg on July 9.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, announced that the evacuation exercise will conclude on July 9 with the final repatriation flight departing from Johannesburg.
The Ministry urged all Kenyans who still require evacuation to register immediately with the High Commission and present themselves at the mission for vetting by July 7.
"Those who require evacuation must register immediately with the Kenya High Commission in Pretoria and present themselves at the Mission for vetting not later than Tuesday, July 7, 2026," the Ministry said.
It added that "only those who have been registered, vetted, and processed will be eligible for evacuation on the final flight".
The government also expressed gratitude to the Kenyan community in South Africa, led by the Kenya Diaspora Association in South Africa (KEDASA), for maintaining peace and cooperating with consular teams and local authorities throughout the evacuation exercise.
"The government expresses sincere gratitude to the Kenyan community in South Africa, led by KEDASA and its leadership, for maintaining peace and cooperating with consular teams and local authorities during the evacuation," the statement added.
The Department further advised Kenyans requiring urgent assistance to contact its 24-hour Diaspora Call and Response Centre or the High Commission in Pretoria. Those in distress were also encouraged to seek help from the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The Ministry said the government would continue to closely monitor the situation in South Africa as the evacuation exercise draws to a close.
"The government, through the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as necessary," it reiterated.
The evacuation exercise is part of the government's efforts to facilitate the safe return of Kenyans wishing to leave South Africa, while ensuring the process is conducted in an orderly manner.
