KMTC opens September intake applications, sets August 11 deadline for students

Students seeking admission to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) have until August 11, 2026, to apply for the September intake through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and the KMTC Admissions Portal.

In a notice on Wednesday, KMTC said applicants seeking admission into pre-service programmes should submit their applications through KUCCPS, while those applying for in-service and upgrading programmes have been directed to use the official KMTC Admissions Portal.

"Pre-service programmes are now open for application through the KUCCPS Student Portal, with the application deadline set for August 11, 2026. Applicants can submit their applications through https://students.kuccps.net. In-service and upgrading programmes are also open for application through the KMTC Admissions Portal at https://admissions.kmtc.ac.ke," reads the notice.

The application window opened shortly after KMTC students completed their Final Qualifying and End-of-Semester examinations, paving the way for a new group of trainees expected to join the institution later this year.

The college offers certificate, diploma and higher diploma programmes that prepare healthcare professionals for service in hospitals, health centres and other medical facilities across the country. Its programmes cover fields such as Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Radiography, Public Health, Nutrition, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Community Health, among others.

The intake follows the release of KUCCPS placement results, which showed strong competition for medicine courses and the placement of 28,246 students in KMTC. According to KUCCPS, Bachelor of Medicine was among the most competitive courses during the 2026/2027 placement cycle.

KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome said 6,500 students applied for the medicine course, but only 702 places were available across public and private universities, leaving many qualified applicants without admission.

Wahome said 81 per cent of students who applied for courses had been placed after being ranked using the performance index based on cluster subject weights. She explained that applicants for medicine are ranked using performance in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and a language subject.

“We look at the cluster subjects. The cluster subjects are Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and a language, and then the students compete in those four subjects. Those form the cluster subjects; the students get a cluster weight, and then now the weight is what is ranked from the first to the last student, who is now student number 6500; then we cut it off per university,” she said.

Wahome, however, expressed concern over the low number of students qualifying for science-based courses despite the available university capacity.

"Some capacities will remain unfilled, and a good number of these capacities are in the science subjects, so it's a challenge that we need to see some improvements in the performance of our sciences,” she said.

Despite this, prospective applicants have been urged to complete their applications before the August 11 deadline and verify all admission information through the official KUCCPS and KMTC platforms to avoid falling victim to fraud.
