Italian investors have been encouraged to explore opportunities in infrastructure, energy, fisheries, agriculture, manufacturing and social services following discussions with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.
The meeting brought together a delegation of business leaders and investors from Italy who were in Somalia to attend a conference on trade and investment cooperation between Somalia and Italy.
The Italian Ambassador to Somalia was also present during the discussions.
According to Villa Somalia, the talks focused on strengthening economic relations and expanding trade cooperation between the two countries. The Italian delegation included executives from companies, industrial firms and investors interested in exploring business opportunities in Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh welcomed the delegation and said Somalia is making progress in security, governance and economic recovery, creating conditions that support investment and business activity across different sectors.
He urged the investors to take advantage of opportunities available in the country, particularly in infrastructure, energy, fisheries, agriculture, manufacturing and social services.
“Somalia is today undergoing broad changes in security, economic reconstruction and the creation of an environment that encourages international investment,” President Hassan Sheikh told the delegation.
The visit comes as Somalia continues efforts to attract foreign investment and increase economic cooperation with international partners as part of its wider development agenda.
Sources familiar with the discussions said members of the Italian delegation expressed interest in Somalia’s emerging markets and ongoing development projects, noting that the country presents opportunities for long-term investment.
The investors also discussed possible areas of collaboration with Somali businesses and institutions, with both sides examining ways to support national development priorities while building commercial partnerships between companies from the two countries.
According to Villa Somalia, the Italian delegation thanked the President for the reception and the opportunity to hold discussions on trade and investment cooperation. The delegation said it was interested in exploring opportunities in Somalia, particularly in sectors linked to economic growth and development projects currently underway across the country.
The meeting reflected growing engagement between Somalia and Italy, countries that have maintained relations in different areas over the years. Economic cooperation has increasingly become a focus as Somalia seeks to expand investment flows and strengthen links with international business communities.
