According to a new report by South Korean publication Sisa Journal, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to measure just 6.25mm in thickness.
If accurate, this would make it the thinnest iPhone ever, surpassing the iPhone 6, which debuted at 6.9mm and was once hailed for its sleek profile.
By comparison, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are 7.8mm thick, while the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max measure 8.25mm. This indicates the new model could be up to 25 per cent thinner than its predecessor.
“The iPhone 17 'Air' will reportedly be about 2mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro,” Bloomberg Chief Correspondent Mark Gurman posted on X.
In addition to its slim design, the report notes that the pricing for the iPhone 17 Air is expected to align with the iPhone 16 Plus, which starts at $899 (Sh 116,008).
Earlier reports had speculated that the iPhone 17 Air might be priced closer to the Pro models, but the latest findings suggest otherwise. The Wall Street Journal recently echoed this estimate, reinforcing the possibility of a competitive price point.
Macromours also notes that the iPhone 17 will have a display that's around 6.6 inches.
“It has been likened to a MacBook Air, with the iPhone 17 Pro serving as the MacBook Pro in the analogy,” reads its analysis dated January 2, 2025.
Rumours also suggest that all of Apple’s 2025 iPhone models are expected to introduce ProMotion display technology across all variants, offering a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and improved video playback.
This will mark a significant upgrade for the entire lineup, enhancing user experience with more fluid visuals.
On the camera front, Apple is reportedly developing a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with a six-element lens for sharper and more detailed selfies.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may feature a 48-megapixel Telephoto camera, a notable improvement over the current 12-megapixel sensor, promising greater clarity and precision in zoomed-in photography.
While details remain sparse and unofficial, the iPhone 17 Air is already generating excitement among tech enthusiasts.
With its anticipated ultra-thin design and pricing that mirrors existing mid-range options, it promises to be a standout release in Apple’s fall lineup.
