By combining a large foldable display, stylus support and AI-driven software, Motorola is betting that users want foldables that do more than just look futuristic.

Motorola has unveiled a new foldable smartphone at CES 2026, signalling a major shift in the company’s mobile strategy against its competitors, Samsung, Huawei, and Google.
The device, dubbed the Motorola Razr Fold, is the brand’s first-ever book-style foldable, beyond the compact flip phones that have defined the modern Razr era since 2019.
The Razr Fold was unveiled during Motorola’s CES showcase on Wednesday, where the company confirmed that the phone will launch globally later in 2026, with select markets expected to receive it in the second half of the year.
Unlike previous Razr models that folded vertically, the Razr Fold opens horizontally like a book, transforming from a standard smartphone into a tablet-sized device.
Motorola says the new design is aimed at users who want productivity, multitasking, and immersive media, rather than just a stylish compact phone.
When closed, the Razr Fold functions like a regular smartphone thanks to its large external display, allowing users to answer calls, reply to messages, and browse apps without opening the device.
Once unfolded, it reveals a large inner screen designed for split-screen apps, note-taking, and content consumption.
A stylus support sets it apart
One of the Razr Fold’s standout features is stylus support, a rarity among foldable phones. Motorola confirmed compatibility with the Moto Pen Ultra, positioning the device as a tool for professionals, creatives and students who want to sketch, annotate documents or take handwritten notes on the go.
This feature gives the Razr Fold a distinct edge in a market where most foldables focus primarily on-screen size rather than input versatility.
Motorola has also leaned heavily into imaging, equipping the Razr Fold with a triple 50-megapixel rear camera system. The selfie has a 32-megapixel sensor on the cover screen, while a 20-megapixel camera sits in the corner of the inner foldable panel.
The setup is designed to deliver flagship-level photography and video, whether the phone is folded or fully open.
On the software side, Motorola is introducing AI-powered features optimised for foldable use.
These tools help manage multitasking, summarise content and adapt the interface depending on how the device is being held, aiming to make the large screen feel practical rather than overwhelming.

As CES 2026 continues, Motorola’s Razr Fold stands out as one of the show’s most significant smartphone reveals, a bold attempt to redefine what the Razr name means in the era of foldable technology.
Motorola has not yet announced official pricing.
However, based on international flagship foldable pricing and import trends, the Razr Fold is expected to retail in Kenya at between Sh70,000 and Sh210,000, depending on storage configuration and taxes.
