Bungoma shock Gideon, Kayole shine, Ulinzi back on track as Kisumu–Zetech match abandoned
Bungoma shock Gideon Starlets, Kayole thrash Kisped, Ulinzi return to winning ways as FKF Women’s Premier League weekend delivers drama and chaos.
The FKF Women’s Premier League returned for its sixth round of fixtures under the shadow of the international break, which limited weekend action to just four matches. Top-three sides, Kenya Police Bullets, Trinity Starlets, and Vihiga Queens, were excused from duty after sending multiple players to the Harambee Starlets camp. Their absence gave chasing teams a chance to close in on the summit, while relegation-threatened Nyanza sides sought a change in fortune.

Saturday’s action kicked off at Bungoma National Polytechnic, where Bungoma Queens hosted Gideon Starlets. After a cagey first half with few goalmouth opportunities, the game sprang to life shortly after the interval.
Catherine Khaemba broke the deadlock for Bungoma in the 48th minute. Gideon responded on the hour to level, but just three minutes later, Braxides Itambo restored Bungoma’s lead. The hosts held firm to secure only their second win of the season, moving to seven points and into eighth place. Gideon remained stuck on three points, deep in relegation trouble.
Ulinzi Starlets return to winning ways
Across the city at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Ulinzi Starlets dominated Madira Soccer Assassins 3–0 to return to winning form. Jacky Chesang set the tone with an early strike in the 15th minute. Mercy Airo added a second goal in the second half before Sylvia Rasoa completed the rout in the 71st minute.
Despite the victory, Ulinzi remained in fourth place but moved level on 11 points with Vihiga Queens, intensifying the race behind the league leaders.
Chaos in Kisumu as match abandoned
Drama unfolded at Moi Stadium, Kisumu, where Kisumu All Starlets’ clash with Zetech Sparks ended in chaos. Zetech led 1–0 in the second half when Kisumu were awarded a penalty. Fierce protests from the visitors prompted a lengthy consultation, after which the referee reversed the decision.
The decision sparked outrage from Kisumu players and officials, escalating to the point where the match was abandoned. The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee is expected to review reports and determine the outcome, leaving both teams in limbo.
Kayole Starlets storm past Kisped Queens
Sunday’s lone fixture at Utalii Grounds saw Kayole Starlets deliver the weekend’s most emphatic result, defeating Kisped Queens 4–1.
Despite missing midfielder Ashley Shilwatso, who is on national team duty, Kayole started brightly. Lindah Kihara set up Nuru Hadima for a long-range opener in the 24th minute. Kisped equalised before halftime via a penalty after a handball in the box.
The second half belonged to Kayole. Kihara powered in a header from a Ngugi cross just four minutes after the restart. Substitute Faith Naliaka scored her debut goal in the 56th minute, reacting fastest after a goalkeeper fumble from a free kick. Magneta Ocharo capped a dominant performance with a fine finish in stoppage time, sealing a 4–1 victory.
The win moved Kayole to ten points, consolidating their spot in the upper half of the table, while Kisped remained at the bottom with just one point.
Standings as league hits international break
Kenya Police Bullets continue to lead with 15 points, followed by Trinity Starlets on 13 and Vihiga Queens on 11. Ulinzi and Kayole have inserted themselves among the top contenders, while Kisumu All Starlets, Kisped Queens, and Gideon Starlets remain in the relegation dogfight.
The fate of the abandoned Kisumu–Zetech match could significantly impact the table once FKF makes its ruling.
