According to Gazette Notice No. 11221, dated July 24, 2026, Mabonga will serve as EPRA Board chairperson for a three-year term effective from the same date.
President William Ruto has appointed former Bumula Member of Parliament Moses Wekesa Mwambu Mabonga as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), replacing Adan Haji Ali.
The appointment is part of a series of changes to leadership of state agencies announced through the Kenya Gazette on Friday.
According to Gazette Notice No. 11221, dated July 24, 2026, Mabonga will serve as EPRA Board chairperson for a three-year term effective from the same date.

The appointment was made under Section 12(1)(a) of the Energy Act, as read with Section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.
The notice revoked Gazette Notice No. 7850 of 2025, through which Ali had been appointed to head the energy regulator.
Mabonga, who previously served as Bumula MP, takes over leadership of EPRA, the state agency responsible for regulating Kenya’s energy and petroleum sectors, including electricity, renewable energy, and petroleum products. Mabonga served as the Bumula MP from 2017 to 2022 after winning the seat as an independent candidate.

The Gazette also announced the appointment of Faith Akiru Kuno to the EPRA Board of Directors, replacing Jennipher Nawoi Long’or.
In a related move, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen appointed Adan Haji Ali as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Public Benefit Organisations (PBO) Regulatory Authority.
The appointment is among several changes to leadership of state agencies announced through the Kenya Gazette.
In another change, President Ruto re-appointed Eng Gilbert Maluki as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Irrigation Authority Board for a further three-year term.
The re-appointment, made through Gazette Notice No. 11220 under the Irrigation Act, also takes effect from July 24, 2026.
Meanwhile, Dr Thuo Mathenge’s appointment as Chairperson of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) Board was revoked.
