The Nairobi Expressway will be fully closed in both directions between James Gichuru Road and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from 10:00 pm on Saturday until 3:00 pm on Sunday.

City motorists have been advised to expect major traffic disruptions this weekend as several key roads across the capital will be closed to facilitate the Nairobi City Marathon scheduled for Sunday.
According to a public notice issued ahead of the event, the road closures will begin at midnight on Saturday, June 6, 2026, and remain in force until Sunday afternoon, June 7, affecting major transport corridors within the city.
The Nairobi Expressway will be fully closed in both directions between James Gichuru Road and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from 10:00 pm on Saturday until 3:00 pm on Sunday. Authorities say the closure is intended to ensure safety for participants and smooth execution of the race.
Waiyaki Way will also be affected, with inner lanes closed from Nairobi School to the Expressway entrance, and restrictions in place from midnight on Sunday until 10:00 am.
Within the city centre, Uhuru Highway will be closed in both directions between Lusaka Roundabout and Museum Hill from midnight on Sunday until 2:00 pm, while Kenyatta Avenue will be inaccessible between Panafric Hotel and Moi Avenue during the same period.

Other CBD roads affected include Haile Selassie Avenue and Processional Way between Cathedral Road and Uhuru Highway, which will be closed until 4:00 pm. City Hall Way, Simba Street, Moi Avenue (between University Way and City Hall Way), University Way (between Uhuru Highway and Slip Road), Muindi Mbingu Street, and Koinange Street will also be closed from midnight until 2:00 pm.
The temporary restrictions are expected to significantly affect movement into and out of the city centre, as well as access to key destinations, including the JKIA and major business districts. Motorists have been urged to plan and use alternative routes to avoid delays.
The closures are part of security and logistical arrangements for the annual event, which continues to grow in popularity and attracts thousands of participants across different categories.
The 10km race has emerged as the most popular category, with 6,550 of the 17,450 registered participants opting for the distance. The 42km full marathon has attracted 1,750 runners, while 5,050 participants are set to compete in the 21km half marathon.
Meanwhile, the 5km family fun run has also drawn significant interest, with 4,100 participants registered.
