The upgraded Ashabito Hybrid Solar Station will serve more than 1,000 customers and extend reliable electricity to Ashabito, Marothile Ward and surrounding communities.

Residents of Mandera North are set to benefit from improved access to electricity following the upgrade of the Ashabito Hybrid Solar Station from a 40 kWh system to a 100 kWp solar power system. The expansion is expected to improve power reliability and extend electricity services to more households and businesses.
The upgrade increases the station’s capacity to serve more than 1,000 customers, strengthening electricity access in Ashabito and surrounding areas. It is also expected to support businesses, public institutions and other essential services that rely on a stable power supply.
Mandera North Member of Parliament Bashir Abdullahi inspected the upgraded facility on Wednesday.
Speaking after the inspection, Abdullahi said the investment demonstrates ongoing efforts to improve electricity access in the constituency and provide residents with a reliable source of power.
"The station has been upgraded from 40 kWh to a 100 kWp solar power system, increasing its capacity to serve over 1,000 customers."
He said the project would help meet the growing demand for electricity while supporting development across the region.
According to the MP, the benefits of the project will extend beyond Ashabito, with plans already underway to connect the neighbouring Marothile Ward to the upgraded power station.
"In the coming weeks, it will also begin supplying electricity to the neighbouring Marothile Ward, further accelerating socio-economic growth and improving the quality of life for our people," he said.
The planned expansion is expected to increase electricity access for more residents while creating opportunities for businesses and public facilities that depend on a reliable power supply.
During his visit, Abdullahi also met residents of Ashabito and Marothile wards to discuss challenges facing the communities and identify development priorities requiring attention. He said the consultations are part of efforts to involve residents in planning projects that address local needs.
The MP said the solar station upgrade forms part of broader efforts to improve access to essential services and boost economic activity in Mandera North.
The upgraded Ashabito Hybrid Solar Station is expected to play a key role in supporting households, businesses, schools and health facilities by providing a more reliable electricity supply.
Increased access to power is also expected to stimulate economic growth and improve service delivery as more consumers are connected to the expanded system.
