Orengo told supporters that the new political outfit had replaced ODM as the vehicle through which they would advance their agenda.

Siaya Governor James Orengo has declared the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) “dead”, saying he is the party leader of the Linda Mwananchi Party and will take charge of selling its policies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the Linda Mwananchi movement’s mobilisation activities in Western Kenya, Orengo told supporters that the new political outfit had replaced ODM as the vehicle through which they would advance their agenda.
“Nataka mjue mimi ndio party leader ya Linda Mwananchi, mimi ndio lazima niuze sera za chama. Chama cha ODM imekufa. Sasa chama yetu ni Linda Mwananchi,” Orengo said.

The remarks come as Linda Mwananchi leaders intensify their grassroots campaigns across Western Kenya, with the movement seeking to build support ahead of the next general election.
During a tour of the region, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders held rallies in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties, where they received support from residents, including cash contributions and other forms of donations.
Sifuna said the movement was being funded by ordinary citizens rather than wealthy political financiers, arguing that public contributions would help create a government accountable to the people.

“I know they said we don’t have money. Look at this convoy. This money is from the people of Chwele. This money is from the people of Chwele,” he said.
The delegation, which included Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other opposition leaders, held rallies in Kitale, Kiminini, Kamukuywa, Kimilili, Chwele and Bungoma town.
Sifuna said the donations demonstrated a new approach to politics where citizens take ownership of political campaigns instead of relying on a few wealthy individuals.
The emergence of Linda Mwananchi comes amid increased political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition leaders seeking to consolidate support across key regions.
The Western Kenya campaign has also unfolded amid an intensifying political contest for the region, with Kenya Kwanza leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, simultaneously rallying support for President William Ruto.
