After the race, an elated Serem hailed both his personal achievement and Kenya's podium sweep.

Kenya extended its dominance in the men's 3,000m steeplechase after Edmund Serem led a memorable clean sweep of the podium at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Monday night.
The rising star stormed to victory in a time of 8:18.23, finishing ahead of compatriots Simon Koech, who claimed silver in 8:18.59, and Leonard Bett, who secured bronze in 8:21.63.
The result ensured Kenya claimed all three medals in the event while extending its remarkable run to a 10th consecutive Commonwealth Games steeplechase title.

From the outset, the signs pointed towards another Kenyan triumph despite the presence of a strong field that included world champion George Beamish. The Kenyan trio quickly asserted themselves at the front of the race, dictating the pace from the gun.
Koech set the early tempo, with Bett and Serem content to remain close behind during a relatively cautious opening phase.
As the race entered its closing stages, Serem began to increase the pressure with three laps remaining, while Bett, who had matched Koech stride for stride, started to lose contact with the leading pair.

The Kenyan trio gradually pulled clear of the rest of the field, stretching the gap with each lap and leaving the chasing pack with little hope of challenging for the medals.
At the sound of the bell, Serem unleashed a brilliant finishing kick to surge past Koech, who fought hard but was unable to respond. With the medals already guaranteed for Kenya, the only remaining question was the order in which the country's athletes would finish.
After the race, an elated Serem hailed both his personal achievement and Kenya's podium sweep.
"Today I am very happy. I have won my first title at my first Commonwealth Games. I know my family and 50 million Kenyans are happy. More so, we achieved a clean sweep for Kenya," he said.
The victory marks Serem's second major senior title, having won the African championship in Douala, Cameroon, in 2024. The talented steeplechaser also claimed bronze at last year's World Championships in Tokyo, further cementing his status as one of the event's brightest prospects.
