Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declined to mend ties with his predecessor, Kithure Kindiki, accusing him of several issues which he said are “unforgivable”.
Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Murang’a County, Gachagua alleged that Kindiki played a central role in the 2024 Gen Z protests crackdown and sabotaged efforts to combat illicit alcohol, issues he said have made reconciliation impossible.
“Yesterday, Professor Kindiki sent a friend to speak with me, saying that we are being too harsh on him, that we should ease up, and that we should forgive him if we have wronged him. Professor, we have no problem. We forgive you for your sins. But there are two things we cannot forgive, and for those we must pursue you,” he said.
He accused Kindiki of overseeing and executing the abduction and killing of young protesters during the demonstrations against the Finance Bill, alleging that the actions were carried out on the instructions of President William Ruto.
Gachagua claimed he had personally pleaded with Kindiki, who was the then Interior Cabinet Secretary, not to sanction the operations, but maintained that his pleas went unheeded.
“During the 2024 Gen Z protests, you were the CS Interior. William Ruto instructed you to abduct our children and kill them. I pleaded with you not to agree to kill young children. You supervised and executed, with brutal efficiency, the abduction and killing of Gen Zs,” he said.
“I was there. I can confirm to the people of Kenya that when William Ruto decided to abduct and kill the Gen Zs, he gave that assignment to Professor Kindiki, and he executed it with brutal efficiency. Much as I have heard you are crying, I am unable to forgive you. You should have had mercy on the parents of those young children.”
The ex-DP also linked Kindiki to the alleged collapse of a government campaign against illicit brews, claiming he sabotaged the programme under the instructions of President Ruto.
He noted that the resurgence of illicit alcohol has now worsened the situation for young people, saying many are dying daily.
“Again, I am unable to forgive you for sabotaging the war on illicit brews that has been killing our people. That war was successful, and as CS Interior, William Ruto instructed you to sabotage that war, and today, the brews are back, and our kids are in trouble,” he said.
“Our young people are dying every day. Professor Kindiki, we are unable to forgive you for sabotaging a programme that would have saved an entire generation. Much as you are crying, we’ll make sure that you and William Ruto go home one way, for killing our children and for sabotaging the war on illicit brews.”
He further claimed that internal community conflicts were being deliberately fueled for political gain, saying leaders were being used to mobilise unemployed youth into violence against their own communities.
He appealed to young people not to be used as goons, urging restraint despite economic hardship.
“I plead with our young people. I know you are suffering and you have no jobs, but please do not take money to fight your own people. Just be patient. Our day is coming. Next year, there will be a change of government, and we will create opportunities for jobs,” Gachagua said.
At the same time, the DCP Party leader launched a separate attack on Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, warning him against involving retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in political disputes.
His remarks followed comments by Duale in Mandera county, where he accused Uhuru of undermining President William Ruto during his time as Deputy President.
Gachagua, however, defended the former Head of State, stating, “Uhuru Kenyatta never made any move to impeach William Ruto. He never sent goons or police to beat and teargas him when he was Deputy President. He never stopped him from moving around the country. Even here in the mountain, he was present every week.”
He contrasted this with the current situation, noting, “Today, we have seen a Deputy President being humiliated, persecuted and even impeached. Goons and police are sent to his former deputy to beat him up every weekend,” he claimed.
Gachagua also urged Duale to focus on his responsibilities in the health sector rather than politics.
“Aden Duale, do not go in that direction. Leave Uhuru Kenyatta alone and concentrate on the Social Health Authority. That is not working. And I said earlier, SHA will collapse in the next five months. When it collapses, it will have the biggest corporate loss in the history of Kenya,” he said.
Duale, in his earlier remarks, defended President Ruto and criticised his opponents.
“They disrespected you when you were Deputy President, and think they can do it again now. They did all manner of evil when you were Deputy President. If they think they can insult you, humiliate you and disrespect you again, Kenyans will rise against them,” Duale said.
He added that the current administration had delivered development in previously neglected regions.
“I was in Western Kenya, and people told me they are now seeing development that they did not see during Uhuru’s tenure,” Duale said.
